Chain link fences are popular with our customers because they have a relative low cost compared to say, wrought iron or aluminum, and they are quite fast to install so you can get back to enjoying your yard quicker.
Nowadays chain link fences can be highly customized and can even blend into the background of your yard.
They are also very sturdy (due to the posts being 2 feet under the ground) and able to stand up to wind, the more severe of weather and impacts from stray footballs and the like.
The posts are usually concrete and angle iron (angle iron is commonly used in construction) but wood can be used as well.
Beware of poor quality or using untreated wood as it can rot and be eaten by pests.
(See our wood fence page for a run down on the best type of wood to use in Beaumont.)
A chain link fence is a really great option for a pool or animal enclosure as you can see what is going on in the pool for safety purposes if you have small children or pets.
Chain link fences are not a very good privacy option as you can see through them but they are good for wind exposed properties.
These types of fence are not very high on there security ratings doe to them being see through so passers by can see what is in your yard if used as a perimeter fence and they are relatively easy to scale as there are gaps in the fence for getting good footing for climbing over.
This is why they are good as interior yard enclosures with a secure and private fence on the outside perimiter.
Whatever you can think of, we can install for you.
So if you want full privacy or semi-private, our fence professionals will do a great job of installing your fence to the highest standards.
Usually, the gaps between the mesh is 50mm but you can get 45mm which is commonly used as the perimeters around tennis courts for example.
Prices are from the height of the fence and the diameter of the wire.
Galvanised wire diameter – 2.5mm to 3 mm
Plastic coated – (outer and inner cores) 2.5mm/1.7mm to 3.15mm/2.24mm
These come in various height as well from 900mm to 1800mm.

Mesh screens, attached with zip ties, can be used to provide privacy to a chain link fence. You can also use wood panels.
If your need is for privacy, we would recommend going with wood PVC/Vinyl.
You can use bamboo or reeds screens to add a bit of privacy to your chain link fence, there will bar slight gaps in-between the reeds or bamboo so passers-by can see into your yard if they make an effort to.
As with the privacy option, wood fence panels can also be used.
There are three types of chainlink fences, galvanised, powder coated and plastic coated.
Galvanization involves the application of a zinc coating to the wire (steel or aluminum usually) to make it more durable and helps prevent corrosion, rust and even scratches and scrapes.
Vinyl or plastic coated basically just coats the bare steel with vinyl which helps to make the fence look better finished and also to become scratch resistant.
The best of both worlds goes one step further and adds a vinyl coat to the already galvanized metal. This makes the fence look better but it also increases the likelihood of rusting as the vinyl can come off with wear and tear through the years.
Powder coated is exactly what it sounds like, a coating of powder (a dry, powdered plastic which is then electro-statically charged) is applied to the steel which helps stop rust from forming especially in the humid conditions we get in central Florida.
The vinyl coated is more expensive that galvanised but the galvanisation along with vinyl coating increases the longevity of the fence.
In commercial settings, perimeters of factories, baseball fields, that sort of thing, usually just the galvanised is used as it costs less and in residential settings, vinyl is used as it looks better and can blend into the scenery depending on color choice.
Many times, in residential settings the powder coating is on the posts, rails and caps with the actual mesh of the fence being vinyl coated.
Most chain link fences are recyclable but it depends what they are made out of, how they are coated etc as to how easy it will be as someone recycling centres do not recycle vinyl in residential land fills but need special uplifts and dealt with in a different way.
Scrap yards, due to the steel used in chain link fences being low grade and worth much, might actually charge you to take it from you. You need to take off all the non-metallic parts of the fence which could be challenging.
Many times today, chain link fences are made from recycled materials (both the plastics and the metal) so it is a good choice to ask your fence company about these aspects.
