An aluminum fence is a very attractive option due to being durable, strong and resistant to corrosion.
They are easy to clean, they are resistant to extreme weather conditions such as heat and cold and have low maintenance needs as they don’t rust and so look as good as new for many years.
This means that aluminum fences have long warranties covering decades with some manufacturers providing lifetime warranties.
An aluminum fence can also be more cost-efficient when compared to other materials, such as wrought iron and steel.
Due to aluminum fencing being more expensive than other types of fence in the past, it really hasn’t been until the last 5 to 10 years or so that aluminum began being used in residential settings and now many home owner associations have a requirement for properties as they make the homes look more uniform.
Aluminum fences can be used to provide greater security and privacy to your home and will increase the value of your home too.
They come in a wide variety of sizes and styles with many different color plus decorative and ornamental options to add curb appeal, mark property boundaries or they can surround a pool or be used for perimeter fencing to enhance safety for animals and children.
We’ll try to keep this simple as there are many different styles available (shown below in the variations section) but there are two distinct style types.
The traditional aluminum fence and the privacy or semi private style.
This style of fence is the most popular style of aluminum fence you’ll likely see.
The metal going across the fence from post to post is called the rail (as in the post and rail type you see on most livestock fencing) and it is for keeping the structural integrity of the fence.
The pickets (the metal going vertical) do not support the fence structurally like the horizontal part does.
There are a lot of different stylings available for the top of the posts and also the vertical parts between the posts.
This is not a very good barrier for smaller pets as they will be able to get through the gaps between the posts but they are good for securing larger dog breeds and also keeping children from escaping.
This style is usually around 4 to 6 feet tall but, unlike the traditional type above, they are solid with no gaps (fully private) or they have small gaps which someone can see through with a little bit of effort if they really want to.
These types of fences are great for surrounding swimming pools and for creating a private boundary between neighbors yards.
You can have the railings horizontal or vertical depending on your taste.
This style is the ultimate for privacy and security as there are no gaps for even the smallest of pets to escape through (unless they are expert diggers.)
Whatever you can think of, we can install for you. So if you want full privacy, semi-private, horizontal, vertical, board on board, our artistic fence professionals will do a great job of matching your fence with the properties of your home.
We can install them any height you wish, usually we install fences that are 6 foot or more.
There are residential or commercial grades available with many residential customers choosing to have commercial grade installed because it provides greater strength and commercial grade aluminum fences have 8 foot sections.
For pools, there is another grade that is designed to comply with the ICC pool safety standards.
Other aspects to think about are the color, the amount of rails and the styling of the finials (the tops of the pickets) and the style of post cap you prefer.
The more rails there are, the more ornamental the fence looks.
The most common colors are, black, white, satin black and bronze.
Mostly, people choose a color to go with their siding or door and window trims.
We feel the satin black looks great and suits most homes.
Flat top is the most popular option, the fence pickets are covered with a flat rail across them.
The exposed spears or finials design has the spear heads exposed at the top.
The flat top with spears design is a mixture of the two with the spears being covered above them with a flat top.
This is the decorative shape of a lily and provide a timeless and old world character to a fence.
If broken for some reason they are easy to replace as well.
They look like a fleur-de-lis but they don’t have any protruding aspects coming from the bottom.
Great for offering a would-be intruder something to think about as they are sharper on top than a fleur-de-lis.
These are basically a spear with 4 sides.
You can also have these with a ball on the top of them to bring a modern and contemporary look.
The videos show how the process of how aluminum is recycled and made into all types of aluminum fencing.
Many fences these days are made from recycled aluminum so they are very environmentally friendly along with wrought iron fences.
This differs from wood fences which gives to deforestation and also, if treated, the chemicals can harm the earth.
Vinyl manufacturing uses chemicals as well so they are not as eco-friendly as as an aluminum fence either.
